Frequently Asked Questions

1) When was Central Mass Club Lacrosse founded?
CMass was founded in the Summer of 2006.The goal of Central Mass Club Lacrosse is to provide female lacrosse players with excellent instruction and the opportunity to play in local, regional and national level tournaments.

2)What is unique about Central Mass Club Lacrosse, compared to other club lacrosse organizations?
CMass focuses on improving the skills of every player in the Program, all the while instilling a team concept. Particular attention is paid to improving stick skills and sound defensive techniques. We believe this philosophy will benefit every player in the Program, whether she aspires to play in college or high school. If a player's fundamentals are strong, it will open more doors for her, especially at the college level.

Players aspiring to play in college will benefit from the guidance and input from Stephanie Ridolfi, Head Coach at Holy Cross College and Shannon Curran, Assistant Coach at UMASS/Dartmouth.

CMass is a small Program and we intend to keep it that way. This allows our coaches to develop a relationship with each player, knowing her strengths and areas to improve. Week to week, and tournament-to-tournament our rosters stay the same, promoting consistency, familiarity and camaraderie within each team.

CMass also integrates a Strength & Conditioning Program especially designed for female athletes. The Program includes core strengthening; ACL injury prevention exercises and foot quickness improvement.

3) What would the commitment be if I make one of the CMass teams?
The 2008-2009 season is divided in three segments:

Fall Season: we will participate in the UMASS and the New England Fall Festival tournaments. The UMASS tournament is held on October 12th and the New England Fall Fest (High School ONLY) is November 2nd. Neither tournament is mandatory, but highly encouraged. The Middle School Team will also participate in a 7 v 7 Tournament at Holy Cross College on October 18th.

Winter Training Season: we will begin training indoors at the ForeKicks II facility in Marlborough on November 2nd (Middle School team). The last session will be held on March 9th. You must attend 9 of the 11 sessions. This rule encourages the development of team chemistry, sharpens your skills and allows our coaches to implement our offensive and defensive tactics and strategies.

We also participate in one tournament per month. This year, CMass will sponsor tournaments on November 30th and February 15th.

Spring season: the High School teams practice very rarely, as we realize that the high school season demands a 6 day per week commitment. We have, in years past, played in the Spring into Summer Tournament, held in Rhode Island the first Sunday in June.

Middle School teams however, will have a practice on Saturday afternoons. These sessions are intended to sharpen stick skills and to introduce tactics that will be used in the summer tournament season.

Summer Season: we begin our practice seasons immediately following the High School season. We practice or scrimmage once per week throughout the summer. There are mandatory tournaments and optional tournaments. Mandatory tournaments are very competitive and require that we enter a full roster.

4) Who can join Central Mass Club Lacrosse?
High school players must live within a 50-mile radius of Holy Cross College as per NCAA rules. These are no geographic restriction for Middle School players.

5) How are CMass teams organized?
We typically field two High School teams and one Middle School team. One high school team is comprised of sophomores and juniors; the other High School team is of all freshmen; and the Middle School team is comprised of 7th and 8th graders. We will consider very strong 6th graders for the Middle School team. If a player demonstrates that she is capable of "playing up" we will not hesitate to place her on that team.

6) What does the Team Fee include?
Coaches fees, facility rentals, uniform, reversible pinnie, apparel package, insurance, registration fees for the mandatory tournaments and web site administration. The Team Fee is paid in three segments throughout the year.

7) Will I have additional fees?
Families will be responsible for paying a Team Fee for the non-mandatory tournaments, as well as transportation, hotel and food costs associated with all the tournament. However, CMass will reserve a block of rooms and receive a reduced rate for all tournaments.

8) What happens if I cannot attend a mandatory tournament?
Each player must notify the coaching staff at least four weeks prior to the mandatory tournament. Each request will be reviewed on a case by case basis. We understand that some family events can not missed (weddings, etc.). If a player must miss two mandatory tournaments, her membership with Central Mass will be reviewed and seriously questioned. The tournament entry fee (as part of the Team Fee) will not be returned.

9) Do you offer a family discount?
Yes, we offer a discount of $100 for each additional player in our Program from the same family.
